Iron is the fence you choose when the property has to make a statement and hold a line. We fabricate rather than assemble: pickets, scrolls, finials, cast collars and gate frames are cut, welded, ground and finished for the specific opening. That is what lets an iron fence follow a curved Coral Gables driveway or a Palm Beach seawall without looking like catalog parts forced into place.
The failure mode for iron in South Florida is corrosion, so the coating system matters more than the design. Our standard is hot-dip galvanizing or a zinc-rich epoxy primer under a two-coat urethane or polyester powder finish, with welds ground and sealed before coating.

Fabricated iron versus imported panel kits
Most 'wrought iron' sold in Florida is an imported pre-welded panel with a thin painted finish and hollow pickets crimped into rails. It photographs well and corrodes fast. Fabricated iron uses heavier stock, full-penetration welds ground smooth, and coatings applied after fabrication so no cut end is left raw.
The cost difference at the quote is real. The cost difference over fifteen years is not — replacement plus demolition plus a second permit exceeds the upfront premium.
Estate gates, automation and the details that get skipped
An estate gate is a structural assembly, not a decorative one. A 16-foot double swing gate can weigh 700 pounds, and the pier holding it has to resist both the dead load and the wind load of a partially solid leaf. We pour reinforced piers with rebar cages, install self-lubricating bearing hinges, and coordinate the operator, loop detectors, safety photo-eyes, keypad, intercom and low-voltage runs before the pour — not after.

Restoration of existing iron

We media-blast to bare metal, repair or replace failed sections in matching profile, treat pitting, then re-prime and re-coat. Restoration is usually 40 to 60 percent of replacement cost and preserves the original character that architectural review boards protect.

Will an iron fence rust near the ocean?
Untreated or thinly painted steel will. Hot-dip galvanized steel with a zinc-rich primer and a urethane topcoat performs for decades in coastal exposure, and we specify that system as standard for any property inside the intracoastal or within a few miles of the beach.
Can you match an existing fence or gate?
