Choose aluminum when views, airflow and an open appearance are the priorities. Choose solid vinyl when screening a patio or backyard is more important. A mixed layout can use open fencing at the front and privacy fencing at the rear, subject to local and association approval.

Compare the complete installed scope, not just a panel price. Fence height, excavation, terminal posts and gate hardware can change the cost of either option.

Panel grade describes the dimensions and strength of a particular system, not a universal quality label. A tall fence or a wide gate may require different posts and supports from a short yard enclosure.

On a sloping line, ask whether panels will rack with the grade or step between posts. Review the resulting bottom gap before ordering, particularly if the fence is intended to contain a small dog.

Aluminum does not form the red rust associated with iron, but that does not make every component immune to corrosion. Coating damage, incompatible fasteners and trapped salt can affect the assembly. Ask which finish and hardware will be supplied and whether the manufacturer's warranty has coastal exclusions.

Rinse salt and dirt as appropriate for the selected finish and use the manufacturer's cleaning instructions. Check hinges, latches and loose connections periodically; low maintenance is not no maintenance.
